PEC to Award $100,000 in Scholarships to Students

2017 applications will be accepted starting February 1

As part of our ongoing commitment to youth and education, this year we will once again offer scholarships — doubling our 2016 amount to $100,000 — to eligible high school and home-schooled seniors in our service area. Applications for the 2017 school year will be accepted starting Feb. 1 at pec.coop/scholarships.

“We believe in the power of education and are committed to helping our future leaders grow,” said Alyssa Clemsen-Roberts, PEC vice president of communications and business services. “Our scholarship program is one way we recognize our responsibility to support the communities we serve.”

Scholarships will range from $2,500 to $10,000. The funds can be used to pay expenses at any accredited university, college, junior college, technical school or trade school.

Each scholarship recipient must be at the 12th grade level through public, private or home-schooled education, and their parent or legal guardian must be a PEC member.

Recipients will be selected based on their applications, including an essay, academic performance, community involvement, extracurricular activities and financial need.

2017 Scholarship Application Information

You can apply for a 2017 school-year scholarship at pec.coop/scholarships starting Feb. 1. Recipients will be evaluated on an essay on the following topic:

What are some of the biggest challenges teenagers see in their community? What changes or programs would you implement to improve the community in which you live?

The PEC Scholarship Committee selects a panel of independent judges who determine recipients. All scholarship materials must be submitted online by Friday, March 24, 2017.

Lineman Scholarship

Our lineman teams’ first- and third-place wins at the 2016 Texas Lineman’s Rodeo earned us a full-tuition and a tools scholarship to the Northwest Lineman College.

We’ll be awarding these together as a special PEC Rodeo Team Scholarship to one high school or home-schooled senior whose parent or guardian is a PEC member. Interested students can complete the application at pec.coop/scholarships.
