HILCO Electric adds EV to its fleet

Are you curious about electric Vehicles? We are, too. The appeal of EVs is gaining momentum around the country. The similar push for greater fuel efficiency in traditional cars has been joined by the push for greater miles per charge in electric vehicles.

In that spirit of efficiency, HILCO Electric Cooperative debuted its first electric car—a Nissan Leaf—and installed its first charging station this summer.

Educating members about new technologies is a big priority at HILCO. We hope to use this addition to our fleet to help expand our own and our members’ knowledge about EV technology and how it’s being used locally.

“We believe the number of electric vehicles on the road will increase in coming years as EV purchase prices decrease and the distance-per-charge increases,” said Paula Farquhar, HILCO vice president of administration. “Rural communities are underserved in regards to access to EV charging stations. HILCO wants to help make EV ownership a possibility for its members and others living in rural areas by installing EV charging stations in key areas of our service territory and experiencing EV ownership firsthand.”

The dual-port charging station is centrally located, off Interstate 35 at the HILCO Civic & Event Center, and available for use during business hours.
