West Texas Raceway

2017 grand reopening

If you’re looking for a night filled with action, excitement and family-friendly fun, look no further! West Texas Raceway (WTR), Lubbock’s oldest premier dirt track, is set for a grand reopening on April 7.

Corky Matthews, life-long Lubbock resident, South Plains Electric Cooperative member and successful businessman, has revamped WTR and its venue in preparation for the grand reopening. Recently completed renovations include a new courtyard, bleachers, back-stretch fencing and an upgraded main concession. In addition to new concession areas, a first-time WTR souvenir shop and all new, state-of-the-art electronics will enhance the fan experience.

West Texas Raceway is nationally recognized as one of the most exciting and pioneering facilities in the dirt-track industry. Lubbock’s race facility has terrific on-track action and open pits after every event, making WTR up-close and personal to fans of all ages.

Matthews has created a racing line-up you will not want to miss! WTR offers an extensive variety of dirt-track racing and has over 25 events scheduled for 2017, such as the return of the Street Stocks. WTR will also host the 1st Annual Firecracker Shootout held on July 4 and the 1st Annual Southern Short Track 305 Nationals held in October, both guaranteeing to bring nationally-ranked drivers to Lubbock.

West Texas Raceway plans on taking a break from the fast-paced racing competitions to host a few special events just for kids, including bike races and giveaways, and an end-of-the-year backpack giveaway filled with school supplies. Hosting the finest, speed-driven, action packed, dirt-track racing for drivers and fans is a priority for WTR, but their goals go far beyond. West Texas Raceway is committed to giving back to Lubbock and surrounding community charities. On designated nights chosen by sponsors, half of all ticket proceeds will go to a local charity of the sponsor’s choice.

“We sincerely appreciate the local support. Thank you and God bless.”
