Your Guide to the 2017 PEC Election

New this year: single-member district voting

At PEC, your voice matters. For more than 75 years, we’ve been owned and governed by our members. Your vote in the annual board election is your chance to weigh in on leaders who will represent you and your interests.

In years past, our elections have used an at-large voting system, meaning members could vote for directors in any geographic district, but in August 2016, the board voted to transition to single-member district voting. As of this year, members may vote only for a director who represents their geographic district.

What you need to know to make your voice heard

Which districts are holding elections?

This year, members will vote for directors in District 2 and District 3. Only members in those two voting districts will be able to vote.

Can I vote?

Your voting district is printed on your bill beneath your monthly use. If it is District 2 or 3, you may vote in the race for that district. If you have questions, call us at 1-888-554-4732.

May all members of my household vote?

No. Only the registered PEC member may vote. Holders of joint memberships (such as spouses) have a single vote.

What if I have homes in multiple districts?

Your voting district is tied to the account associated with your PEC membership fee. The service location of that account determines your voting district.

What if I have residential and business accounts?

If your business is a sole proprietorship, you likely have one membership with one vote. If you own a corporation with a separate membership, the business may have a vote independent of your personal membership.

Can I change my voting district?

If you have service locations in more than one district and would like to change your voting district, you may do so once every three years (the length of a full director term) by calling 1-888-554-4732. Please note that changing your voting district will also change the account associated with your membership fee.

Want to run for the board?

Become an active part of the cooperative difference: Consider serving our community on the PEC Board of Directors. Guidelines and materials for members interested in running for board director in districts 2 and 3 are now posted at pec.coop/nomination.

Don’t want to receive campaign materials?

We don’t share member information with marketers, but we do share it with PEC board candidates. To remove yourself from our membership mailing list, voter history list and/or election email list, call 1-888-554-4732.
