Small change can make a big difference. That’s exactly what happens through Operation Round Up, a program that allows Big Country Electric Cooperative members to give back to the community by rounding up their electric bills to the nearest dollar.
In March, Operation Round Up awarded a total of $12,001 in grants. One grant of $500 was awarded to an individual in need. Grants of $1,643 each were awarded to the following organizations:
- Anson Volunteer Fire Department
- Haskell County Ambulance Services
- Haskell County Food Distribution Center
- Post-Garza County Emergency Medical Service
- Roby VFD
- Rotan VFD
- Senior Nutrition Activities Program
Thanks to the generosity of our members, these organizations can continue providing vital services to our communities—emergency response, food assistance and essential community programs.
What Is Operation Round Up?
Operation Round Up is funded by BCEC members who choose to round up their electric bills to the nearest dollar. These small, individual contributions typically add up to about $10,000 each quarter. The funds go directly to local families facing emergencies and to organizations that strengthen our communities. Every penny stays right here at home, helping those in need across the counties we serve.
Who Can Apply?
Operation Round Up welcomes applications from local organizations that provide essential community services, including food banks, shelters, medical and health centers, rescue organizations, educational projects, and childcare programs. Families and individuals facing financial hardships due to life-altering circumstances may also apply.
For more information about the program or to apply for assistance, visit bigcountry.coop/operation-round-up. The application deadline for the next round of funding is 5:30 p.m. May 20.
How It Works
Our goal is to support as many applicants as possible, but since we receive dozens of applications each quarter, we can’t always fulfill every request or provide the full amount requested. However, the funds we distribute have a meaningful impact.
Not all BCEC members participate in Operation Round Up. If you’d like to check whether you’re enrolled or if you’d like to opt out, please contact our office.
Operation Round Up is one of the many ways we uphold the cooperative principle of Concern for Community—neighbors helping neighbors—one small act at a time. Thank you to every member who rounds up. Your generosity makes a real difference.
