Big Country EC Awards $6,800 in Community Grants

Concern for Community is a core cooperative principle

In December, the Big Country Electric Cooperative Trust Board of Directors utilized Operation Round Up funds to award $6,800 in grants to four community organizations:

The LifeHouse $2,500
Roby Lions Club $300
Stamford Elementary Backpack Program $1,000
Stonewall County Senior Citizens $3,000

What Is Operation Round Up?

Operation Round Up is a program supported by Big Country Electric Cooperative members who opt in to round up their electric bills to the nearest dollar.

These amounts—never more than 99 cents per account per month—are then distributed to individuals and organizations with demonstrated financial need in the counties we serve: Borden, Fisher, Garza, Haskell, Jones, Kent, Mitchell, Nolan, Scurry, Shackelford, Stonewall and Throckmorton. Every penny stays right here at home.

Who Can Apply?

Local organizations and programs that provide vital community services including food banks, shelters, medical and health centers, rescue organizations, educational projects, and childcare programs are welcome to apply. Families and individuals with demonstrated financial need due to life-altering circumstances may also submit an application.

Grants are awarded quarterly. The following dates are the application deadlines for this year: February 18, May 20, August 19 and November 11.
