Co-ops: Focused on Service, Not Profits

Now, as always, it’s a good time to be a member of an electric cooperative

Not only are co-ops locally owned and controlled—by you, the members—they are locally run to serve your needs.

While many Texas electricity customers pay their power bills to companies that answer to faraway stockholders who demand a healthy profit every quarter, local members call the shots for electric co-ops.

Co-ops aren’t under pressure to keep rates high enough to generate big dividends for investors. Instead, we keep rates as low as we can while providing high-quality service.

South Plains Electric Cooperative invests money earned in excess of operating costs back into the co-op and eventually returns the excess, known as margins, to members in the form of capital credits.

Co-op leadership shares the concerns that you, the members, have. Our membership is growing and concerns can change, so we solicit feedback from our membership through a formal survey.

We do this every two years by conducting a traditional member survey where we call and ask you about 20 questions varying from every day service items to how you want us to communicate with you. With all of the spammers calling you daily, it’s harder and harder for us to reach our members. We will also test the waters on an email format for the survey this year.

We will be calling and emailing you this month for the survey. Actual people from NRECA Market Research, not a robodialer, will be calling you with NRECA Market Research displaying on your caller ID. If you get a call from a number you don’t recognize and want to verify it is our surveyors, just dial the number back. You will get a recording verifying that the person is calling for our survey. If you should happen to receive a call from that number again, your cooperation in completing our quick survey will be much appreciated!

Your comments, questions and concerns are always welcome and often serve as a springboard for new and better services. We truly want to hear from our members regarding what SPEC is doing right and where we need to improve.

I’ll ask again that you answer our call and give us 10 minutes of your time for the survey. It’s another way you have a voice in the Cooperative. It’s your chance to provide confidential feedback to the board of directors and management team about the Cooperative and the services we provide.

We just want you to be happy!
