Step back in time and celebrate East Texas’ rich pioneer spirit at the 36th Annual Heritage Syrup Festival, taking place Saturday, November 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Known as "The Sweetest Festival in Texas," this cherished tradition is the only folk life festival in East Texas and showcases the art, skill and flavor of a bygone era.
Held across two charming locations—the Depot Museum and Historic Downtown Henderson—the festival brings history to life with live syrup-making using a mule-powered press, traditional homestead demonstrations, artisan vendors, live music, family fun and food galore.
At the Depot Museum (514 N. High St.), syrup makers will fire up the antique cane mill to cook old-fashioned ribbon cane syrup. Meanwhile, visitors can enjoy blacksmithing, rope- and basket-making, quilting, and other hands-on folk craft demos. Vintage tractor displays, a historic print shop and toe-tapping live music round out the experience—with tasty local food served on-site.
Rustic hayride shuttles will carry guests to downtown Henderson, where the festivities expand across 11 city blocks. With over 250 arts and crafts vendors, a classic car show, two stages of entertainment, a dedicated children’s area, and the historic Howard Dickinson House Museum open for tours, there's something for every generation to enjoy.
Whether you're craving sweet syrup, unique shopping, or a family-friendly escape into Texas history, Heritage Syrup Festival is a must-visit.
