July 4, 1976. I was a cast member at Disneyland that year. Disney typically fires off 250 rounds of fireworks each summer night. On that bicentennial night, Disney fired off a total of 1,776 rounds of fireworks. That night’s grand finale included 250 red, white and blue fireworks all being ignited simultaneously. To this day I can say I have never seen such a spectacular sight.

The year that I went to visit a friend in Memphis, Tennessee, and we went to watch the fireworks from Mud Island on the Mississippi River. It was simulcast on a radio station with Elvis Presley music, and the grand finale was Elvis singing the Battle Hymn of the Republic. The spectacular fireworks display, reflected on the water, accompanied by Elvis singing that song was just amazing. I’ll never forget it.
