Texas Co-op Power is proud to announce the winners of our 2011 Co-op Teens Power Texas video contest. We’d like to thank everyone who submitted an entry; we had a great time watching all the videos, and choosing the winners wasn’t easy.
Thompson Wagner, son of Pedernales EC members Tom and Cindy Wagner, is the grand prizewinner of the 2011 Co-op Teens Power Texas video contest. Wagner’s entry, “Electricity Video,” was a collaboration among him and his classmates, Weston Smith and Gabriel Fermin.
The contest, sponsored by Texas Co-op Power magazine in conjunction with electric cooperatives across Texas, asked high school students to create 1- to 3- minute educational videos about electricity.
The winning team spent almost three months creating its video, which is a rap song about electricity. The teens talk about efficiency and safety, and remind their audience not to “use the stuff that you don’t really need, be eco-friendly and that’s a good deed, and if you save power then you’re my friend indeed!”
Wagner will receive $1,500, which he plans to share with his two collaborators. As the sponsoring school, Burnet High School will receive $1,000.
Wagner plans to attend college this fall at Angelo State University and major in business management.
Roper Kerby, son of Bailey County EC members John Leslie and Susan Kerby, is the second-place winner of $500 for his “McLane: Energy Avenger” video.
