Sharing Success: Cooperative Spirit of Giving

Medina EC and CoBank donate $10,000 to area organizations

During fall 2018, Medina EC representatives were able to make $10,000 in donations to three area organizations through CoBank’s Sharing Success program and through the generosity of you, our member-owners.

Half of that was a donation from Medina Electric, and the other half was from CoBank, one of the cooperative’s financial partners. In the seven years the cooperative has participated in Sharing Success, $70,000 has been distributed to organizations across our area. Past recipients include HANK (Hondo), Starr County Self Help Center, El Progreso Memorial Library (Uvalde), Meals on Wheels (Hondo), La Salle County Athletic Fields, Dimmit Regional Hospital (Carrizo Springs), Revive Fort Ringgold (Rio Grande City), Herby Ham Activity Center (Uvalde), Dilley Public Library and Uvalde Grand Opera House.

Recipients include:

  • Southwest Family Life Center received $4,000. SWFLC provides information and shelter to those who are in domestic or family violence situations in Frio, Medina and Uvalde counties. They will use the donation to purchase new beds and mattresses.
  • Sabinal Public Library got a $3,000 donation. It was used in conjunction with other donations to repair the roof on the library. The library serves as a community hub and is used for voting, civic meetings and events special to the community of Sabinal.
  • Casa de Esperanza was presented with $3,000. Casa de Esperanza, started in 2015, provides a safe place for the elderly, unemployed and homeless population in Rio Grande City to eat. It has expanded to include a food pantry, shelter and community computers.
