South Texas Students Head to DC

Three local teens represent Medina EC at 2019 Youth Tour

This month, three students from Medina EC’s service area will travel on what is often referred to as the trip of a lifetime! The 10-day trip, which starts in Austin on June 12, will not only be educational but most definitely fun! After visiting the state Capitol with more than 150 other Texas students, Medina EC winners will head to Washington, D.C., where more than 1,900 kids from across the nation will experience unforgettable moments. Youth Tour students will visit major landmarks, meet their elected officials, and learn about US and cooperative history.

To be eligible for the trip, this year’s applicants competed in an essay contest. The topic was “If you had a chance to sit down with a legislator (either at the state or federal level), what questions would you ask them and why?” Medina EC had an impressive response in applicants and we are happy to announce our winners: Angela Miranda from Rio Grande City, Jose Rodriguez from Castroville and Hannah Faith Smith from Batesville. You can see some of their essay responses below.

In addition to their trip, the winners will each receive a $1,000 scholarship when they head off to college or trade school after graduating high school. To learn more about Youth Tour, visit MedinaEC.org/YouthTour or follow their trip on social media using #YouthTourTexas.

In addition to the Youth Tour program, Medina EC also offers scholarships to members and their children. See who got $1,000 for school through the 2019 scholarship program here.
