Tarkington Community Library Receives Grant From Sam Houston EC Charitable Foundation

Operation Round Up funds to provide new computers

The Sam Houston Electric Cooperative Charitable Foundation presented a grant to Tarkington Community Library for three new computers in August.

“Nearly half of the patrons that visit us each week come to use the internet,” wrote Kasey Fuller, TCL librarian, in the grant application. “Our current computers are over 10 years old.”

The three new computers will be available soon.

The Sam Houston Electric Cooperative Charitable Foundation is supported by Sam Houston EC’s Operation Round Up program. Each month, participating members round up their bills to the next whole dollar and donate the change to the foundation. Employees also contribute by rounding down their paychecks.

“Sam Houston EC was established nearly 80 years ago to improve the quality of life in East Texas,” said Keith Stapleton, Sam Houston EC chief communications officer. “By partnering with our members to support organizations like Tarkington Community Library, we are continuing that mission.”

Grants are available to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that work to strengthen communities and provide vital services in the Cooperative’s 10-county service area. Sam Houston EC members can join the program by visiting samhouston.net.
