I probably have the only one of Jeffie Brewer’s works in San Angelo [A Big Leap From Doodles, July 2026]. It survived a wildfire while being relocated from Alto, New Mexico, to Lubbock.

Our regional bike trail network in east-central Illinois has commissioned several sculptures to place alongside the trails. People love them and even set their routes by the distance between critters. There are designated “critter loops” riders enjoy.

Historic Washout
I remember that Houston Astros rainout because I was at home waiting for my dad to come home from work while listening to what was supposed to be the start of the game on the radio [Currents, Under the Weather, June 2026]. They announced the game was called, noted the historic nature of the event and Dad didn’t get home until about 11 p.m.

Artifact No-No’s
As an archaeology steward for the Texas Historical Commission, I feel it important to remind readers that in the state of Texas, it’s illegal to search for and recover artifacts—be they projectile points or stone tools—on private property without permission and on public lands at all, ever [He Kept Digging, May 2026].
