Trade, Technical School Students Benefit from MidSouth Scholarships

Apply for a scholarship today

MidSouth Electric Cooperative awards numerous scholarships to high school seniors within MidSouth service territory. In the past, a majority of our applicants have been students seeking a traditional four-year degree, but our scholarships are not limited to just those students. MidSouth scholarships can be used for college, university, trade or technical schools.

These days, more students are choosing career paths that offer stability, purpose and financial security without the burden of long-term student debt. Technical schools have emerged as a smart and practical option, equipping students with hands-on skills while meeting the growing demand for trade professionals. When paired with financial support, such as scholarships from a local cooperative, the impact is even greater.

Trade schools have many benefits including focused training, hands-on experience and job placement services. Enrollment in trade and technical programs has increased significantly in recent years as starting salaries have exceeded that of recent college graduates. Many trade school programs can be completed in two years or less, allowing graduates to enter the workforce earlier.

Associate degrees and certificates are the two main types of trade school programs. Associate degrees are more comprehensive, often taking two years to complete and requiring state licensing. Certificate programs are shorter in duration and focus on acquiring specific skills for a particular trade.

Graduating high school seniors moving on to a college, university, trade school or technical school whose parents or legal guardians are MidSouth EC members are eligible for the MidSouth EC scholarship.

Applications must be submitted online at midsouthelectric.com/scholarships by March 20.
