TWN To End Internet Service in Texas

Service ends due to changes in federal program

TWN Communications, the internet service provider that has partnered with Big Country Electric Cooperative for several years, has begun the process of discontinuing its operations in Texas. Decommissioning is expected to be completed by December 31.

According to TWN, their original plans included expanding and upgrading their network across the Texas Panhandle through the federal Broadband Equity Access and Deployment Program, which was designed to help bring high-speed internet to rural areas. However, after the initiative finalized its BEAD parameters, state broadband maps determined that this region was already “sufficiently served.”

TWN stated that while they disagreed with that finding, it made their expansion plans ineligible for funding assistance—ultimately rendering continued operations financially unfeasible.

TWN has notified all affected customers and is managing each step of the transition, including service timelines, billing and refunds. For BCEC members who currently use TWN internet service, here are a few key details:

  • No early-termination fees apply.
  • Equipment does not need to be returned.
  • Accounts with credit balances at the time of service deactivation will receive full refunds.
  • Final invoices will be generated based on the service address’s decommission date or on the date a customer notifies TWN to discontinue service—whichever comes first.

For questions about service or billing, contact TWN Communications customer service at 1-877-877-6861 or visit twncomm.com. As always, members may also contact Big Country EC with additional questions.
