This holiday season, Big Country Electric Cooperative employees and partners demonstrated what it means to live out the cooperative principle of Concern for Community.
Angel Trees
BCEC’s employee relations team continued its annual Angel Tree tradition, helping brighten Christmas for children across our service territory. Thanks to the generosity of our employees, we supported 11 children—six in Snyder, three in Albany and two in Haskell—in partnership with the Scurry County Youth Center and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services of Haskell.
Each child received clothing essentials such as shirts, pants, jackets, shoes, socks and undergarments, along with toys and personal items chosen just for them. What began as a simple way to help a few local families has grown into a meaningful annual effort that reflects the heart of our employees and the communities we serve.
Christmas Cookouts
BCEC brought the holiday spirit to our local communities through our Christmas Cookout fundraisers. With support from members and neighbors, the co-op’s districts raised funds and collected toys for organizations that directly support families in need.
Thanks to this support, we were able to raise:
- $575 and 40 toys for KSNY’s Christmas for Kids program in Snyder
- $910 for No Need for Need to help provide assistance and resources to local families in Roby
- $2,095 for Goodfellows to support their efforts to bring holiday cheer to children and households in the Stamford area
Together, these events turned sausage wraps into real, tangible help for neighbors across the Big Country.
Partnership With Golden Spread
Our power supplier, Golden Spread Electric Cooperative, also demonstrated the cooperative spirit through its community involvement committee. As part of its holiday outreach, Golden Spread EC provided support to one of our member households in need—including a $500 credit toward their electric account and a generous assortment of household items to help make the season a little brighter.
Golden Spread EC also invited each of its member cooperatives to select a local organization to receive a holiday donation given in the cooperative’s honor. Big Country EC selected the Snyder Lions Club to support their annual Goodfellows Food Drive.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors
This season of giving demonstrated what can happen when cooperatives, employees and members come together with a shared purpose.
Thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, organized and supported these efforts. Your generosity continues to make a difference for families across the Big Country—not just during the holidays but all year long. We’re grateful to serve a community like ours.
