Big Country Electric Cooperative is proud to announce Emerie Nicholson of Wylie High School and Evie Stansell of Borden County High School as the recipients of our 2026 academic scholarships.
Each year BCEC awards academic scholarships as part of our commitment to the cooperative principle of Concern for Community. The scholarship program is designed to support outstanding high school seniors who demonstrate academic achievement and dedication to their goals.
Funding for these scholarships comes from unclaimed capital credits that have been returned to the cooperative by the state of Texas. Rather than allowing those funds to go unused, BCEC reinvests them back into the communities we serve.
To ensure a fair and impartial selection process, all applications are evaluated by an outside committee from our local area—not BCEC employees or members. Selection criteria includes letters of reference, extracurricular and community involvement, academic transcripts, demonstrated financial need, and the applicant’s college and career goals.
Congratulations to Emerie and Evie, and best wishes to all area seniors as they embark on their next chapter.
Applications for the academic scholarship can be submitted online and are due each year by March 1. The scholarship program is available only to dependents of BCEC members. More information can be found at bigcountry.coop/scholarships.
