Michael “Mickey” Holzhaus and James “Jimmy” Crawford were recently elected to the Medina Electric Cooperative Board of Directors, representing Voting Districts 1 and 2, respectively. They attended their first official board meeting in October, following the announcement of election results at the cooperative’s 85th annual membership meeting on September 28 in Uvalde.
Holzhaus, a Castroville resident, is retired after 40 years in the industrial steel business and is an alumnus of Texas State University, class of 1979. Holzhaus has served on a variety of professional, philanthropic and community-based organizations including the Metal Service Center Institute-Texas Chapter, Castroville Planning and Zoning Board, and St. Louis Catholic Men’s Society.
A seasoned farmer, Crawford has cultivated grains, cotton, and vegetables in Uvalde and Zavala counties for over 45 years. He travels throughout the country and abroad to agricultural shows and meetings to stay up to date on current farming practices. His experience extends to cooperative leadership, having served on the boards of the Uvalde County Farmers Co-op, the Winter Garden Co-op, and the Wintergarden Spinach Producers, as well as other community organizations.
At the October board meeting, Ken Weynand was elected president, Larry Huesser was re-elected vice president, and Annette Sorrells was re-elected secretary/treasurer. Additionally, Weynand and Huesser were selected to represent Medina EC on the boards of San Miguel Electric Cooperative and South Texas Electric Cooperative, respectively.
Medina EC is governed by a nine-member board, with three directors representing each voting district. These directors serve three-year terms, with one position from each district up for election annually.
