Operation Round Up Grants Awarded

Big Country EC supports local community organizations

At its December 14 quarterly meeting, the Big Country Electric Cooperative Trust Board of Directors utilized Operation Round Up funds to award more than $10,000 in grants to the following local charitable organizations:

Roby Lions Club $260
Aspermont Small Business Development Center,
Double Mountain Outreach Services
$1,000
Stonewall County Senior Citizens Center $3,000
Garza County Trailblazers $3,000
Fisher County Child Welfare Board $3,000

The Operation Round Up program is supported by Big Country EC members whose electric bills are rounded up to the nearest dollar each month. Those cents—never more than 99 cents in a month—go into the Operation Round Up fund for distribution to individuals and organizations with demonstrated financial need in the counties we serve: Borden, Fisher, Garza, Haskell, Jones, Kent, Mitchell, Nolan, Scurry, Shackelford, Stonewall and Throckmorton.

Every penny stays right here at home, and any local organization or program that provides vital community services can apply. Food banks, shelters, organizations that support medical and health needs, rescue organizations, educational projects, child care programs, and other community groups are just a few of the causes Operation Round up can lend support to. Our fund has assisted the Stamford Emergency Medical Services, Anson Meals on Wheels, Anson Lions Club, various food banks and senior citizen centers, area volunteer fire departments, Snyder Community Resource Center, Scurry County Ministerial Alliance, and many other programs to extend the reach of helping hands in our communities. Families and individuals with demonstrated financial need are also eligible for assistance.

Applications for financial assistance from Operation Round Up are reviewed on a quarterly basis in March, June, September and December.
