Big Country Electric Cooperative’s Operation Round Up program is made possible by members who choose to have their electric bill rounded up to the nearest dollar each month.
Those extra cents are pooled together and awarded as grants to individuals and organizations with demonstrated financial need across the counties we serve—Borden, Fisher, Garza, Haskell, Jones, Kent, Mitchell, Nolan, Scurry, Shackelford, Stonewall and Throckmorton.
Every penny donated through Operation Round Up stays right here at home, helping strengthen the communities we serve.
December Grants
In December, the Big Country Electric Cooperative Operation Round Up Trust board approved the following grants:
- $1,000 grants to Aspermont Small Business Development Center, Museum of the West Texas Frontier and Roby Lions Club
- $1,500 grants to Sparrow’s Nest, the Clothes Closet and the LifeHouse
- A $1,000 grant to one individual (name withheld to protect privacy)
These grants support a wide range of services, from education and preservation to community assistance and outreach.
Featured Grant Recipient
This year, BCEC is highlighting Operation Round Up grant recipients in Texas Co-op Power to share how grant funds are making a difference.
The Museum of the West Texas Frontier is dedicated to preserving and sharing the heritage and culture of frontier pioneers through exhibits, a kids discovery room and educational programming for all ages. Funds awarded through Operation Round Up will support the museum’s school program, which provides free educational opportunities for rural Title I schools across 11 counties.
These programs include in-class lessons for pre-K through 12th grade students, as well as field trips to the museum’s Stamford location. The museum also partners with other institutions across Texas to bring traveling exhibits directly to school campuses, expanding access to educational experiences for students who might not otherwise have the opportunity.
The Museum of the West Texas Frontier is free and open to the public, serving rural West Texas and beyond through education, preservation and community engagement.
