People Matter

A message from General Manager/CEO Mark Mcclain

In today’s fast-moving world, it’s easy to feel like just a number. We see it everywhere—in long customer service waits, in systems that prioritize profits over people and in communities where neighbors feel more distant than ever.

But at Big Country Electric Cooperative, we believe in something different. We believe people still matter.

That belief isn’t just a slogan—it’s at the heart of who we are and why we exist. Our cooperative was built by people, for people. We don’t answer to stockholders. We answer to our members—our neighbors, families and friends. That changes everything.

Our Families Matter

We’re part of this community. We raise our families here. We live alongside the people we serve.

That means we care deeply about the safety, reliability and affordability of the electricity that powers our homes, schools and businesses. When storms come or challenges arise, we respond—not because we have to, but because we want to. That’s what families do.

Our Employees Matter

The people who work at Big Country EC are more than employees—they’re the heart of this organization. They bring skill, dedication and integrity to the job every day.

Whether it’s a lineworker climbing a pole in the middle of the night or a member service representative patiently walking someone through a billing question, we’re proud of the people who make this cooperative what it is. We take care of our team, and they take care of our members.

Our Members Matter

As a cooperative, we’re not here to make a profit from our members—we’re here to serve them. Every decision we make is guided by one question: What’s best for the people we serve? Whether that means investing in infrastructure, supporting local schools and nonprofits, or simply being a voice our members can trust, we put people first.

We know the world doesn’t always work that way. It’s easy to lose sight of each other in the noise. But at Big Country EC, we don’t cut corners or chase trends. We show up, do what’s right, and remember that behind every meter and every mile of line is a person who matters.

This past year brought challenges, yes, but also powerful reminders of how strong and connected we are when we put people first. And that’s exactly what we’ll keep doing.

Because people still matter.

They always have.

They always will.
