Focus on Texas: Parenthood

Visions of natural instincts and thoughtful decisions

It’s the toughest, most rewarding job there is. From the moment a child is born, parenthood is an exercise in nurturing, teaching and letting go. And when the time comes for our offspring to experience the world on their own, they remain in our hearts and are never far from our thoughts.

Charles Baxter, CoServ: “Mother mallard and nine ducklings.”

Helen Fowler, Pedernales EC: A father’s love on his daughter’s wedding day.

Sandra Drake, Bluebonnet EC: “My daughter, the youngest of four, has waited a long time for her turn at parenting. The joy her newborn baby boy brings can be seen in every fiber of her being.”

Beth Rodriguez, Fayette EC: “Working from home, Parker gets a lifeline connection from son Bennett.”

Carol Kitchens, San Patricio EC: “Taken at West Winds Longhorn ranch in Thorndale. Momma was keeping a close eye on her baby during my photo session, and baby didn’t want mom fussing over her.”

Mary Caruth, Pedernales EC: “Our grandsons and their pops doing chemistry experiments.”

Carly Latham, Heart of Texas EC: “My children are the wind beneath my wings. With them I feel like I can touch the clouds.”

Jim Owen, CECA: “Jude Clark, the first grandson of Jim Owen, is learning how to share bottles and help out his o-pop.”

Dana Gaskin, Farmers EC: “My daughter and I visited a vegetable farm right before the last big freeze in South Texas. We were freezing but had fun. The biggest surprise was when we finished: I had locked my keys in the car.”

Don Bickham, Bandera EC: “Whitetail mothers can be caring too.”

Wendell Brock, CoServ: “This mother loves her baby to the point of fighting anything to protect it, and she is so patient while it nurses.”

Chris Gannon, Bluebonnet EC: “This is our son, Silas. He’s my best friend. He was 7 months old at the time of this photo. We love being outdoors.”

Courtney Holdren, Lyntegar EC: “James and Deacon, fourth- and fifth-generation farmers, fill a grain drill in east Lynn County.”

Sharon Lewis, Sam Houston EC: “My son helps my grandson Mason adjust his football helmet.”

Cynthia Rauser, Central Texas EC: “Our grandchildren love going for rides with Grandpa on the tractor. This is Gary Rauser and grandson Dawson enjoying a ride, making memories and having a grand time together.”
