School starts this month, and as summer activities end, preparations for the upcoming academic year are ramping up. Shopping for new clothes and collecting school supplies are standard activities for most students; however, there are other ways to prepare for classroom success. Students heading into a new academic year can broaden their perspective by considering the following tips for success.
Create goals
It’s easy to say, “I want to get straight A’s this year,” but without an action plan, it’s much harder to do. Coming up with specific goals, and plans to achieve them, will not only help students stay on track but will also help identify challenges before they emerge. By analyzing the previous year, students can evaluate areas to improve and explore new ways to enhance their academic performance.
Stay ahead
Most subjects build upon their foundations, so slacking off in the first few weeks can cause students to fall behind. Starting the year off with a good work ethic will make for a less stressful and more successful school year.
Stick to a daily routine
In addition to school and homework, students often juggle other activities such as jobs and sports along with participation in clubs, other organizations and social events. Creating a daily routine can help minimize the stress and anxiety of having to tackle it all. Establish a schedule before school begins to help students manage their time and stay on track mentally and physically throughout the year.
Enjoy the rest of summer
Although there always seems to be a laundry list of items to tackle before the new academic year begins, it’s important to enjoy the remainder of summer break. Managing the task list by creating space for fun helps mentally prepare students for the work ahead.
